Cliff Hollestelle:
A Retrospective

The Cooper Gallery at Morrill Hall is pleased to present spectacular bird carvings and bronze sculptures of award winning artist Cliff Hollestelle.

A few of Cliff's pieces are available at our gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The highlights:

Cliff and Michael have worked on many joint projects over the past few years, including this amazing Sandhill Crane sculpture of Joy.

Joy - bronze. Edition of 50.

This gorgeous piece is one of a series that have matched up Cliff's enormously sought after carved feathers with Michael's photographs.

This photo has is accompanied by one of his carved pheasant feathers. He has also done Sandhill Crane and Prairie Chicken feathers with us. Hard to believe until you see it, but he makes that peice of wood so beautiful that people often think they are real feathers!

"His Majesty" is cast of bronze, stands around 36 inches tall and weights approximately 150 pounds.

An edition of 25, this piece effectively guards our gallery day and night. He can guard your abode for a small price!

Cliff Hollestelle: A Retrospective
EXHIBIT: December 1, 2006 - April 1, 2007, Morrill Hall (Cooper Gallery)

Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Cliff Hollestelle started drawing wildlife as a child. He received formal art training from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he earned a BFA in 1963. After college, he decided that the wooden sculpture was the best medium for him to realistically interpret nature. Each species he carves has been carefully studied to make it as true to life as possible.

In addition to his wood sculptures, Cliff has also created many pieces that have been cast in bronze. Three of these works are featured at the Folsom Children’s Zoo in Lincoln: a pair of wood ducks on a log with a soft-shelled turtle, a life-sized bald eagle, and a blue heron, all of which are also on display in this exhibit. Two red-tail hawks were purchased for permanent display at the sculpture garden in Fallbrook, California and at the San Diego River Foundation in San Diego, California. A flock of turkeys created by Cliff is on permanent display at Quarry Oaks Golf Course in Ashland, Nebraska.

Cliff has entered many art shows throughout the U.S., and has won numerous awards. In 1983, he received the Best of Show for Decorative Floating Decoy at the Ward Foundation World Championship Wildfowl Competition in Ocean City, Maryland, for a sculpture of a ruddy drake, which is also shown in this exhibit. He has also won the Best Goose and Confidence category with a blue goose and a white-fronted goose at that same competition.

In 1986, Cliff was named the Nebraska Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year, and was the featured artist at the NEBRASKAland Days Art Show. In 2005, he was chosen the Nebraska Wildlife Federation’s Artist of the Year. He has annual exhibits at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show in Wyoming, and the Aksarben Invitational in Omaha. He has also served as a judge at many national and international art competitions.
