Evening Passage

Product Number: 066

Product Options:

Sandhill Cranes - Platte River Valley, Nebraska. Returning from the fields at sunset, sandhill cranes strafe low over the Platte River searching for shallow midriver sandbars that will provide a safe nighttime roost spot away from any predators lurking along the bank. Each evening, cranes will often cruise low over the river in this fashion for several minutes, until finally, a few birds will select a spot and land. In quick succession those few birds may turn into dozens, which may turn into hundreds and by nightfall, even into the thousands, often creating a roost that can stretch over nearly a mile of river.
