Sandhill Crane pair, Upper Peninsula, Michigan. In a golden fog, two crane figures point their heads skyward as they unison call on a secluded spruce bog where their nest is located in Hiawatha National Forest on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Cranes will unison call at first light and then throughout the day as they change places at the nest. Often other crane pairs will answer from their nesting territories in rapid succession like an echo traveling across the landscape.
